From Sunday (May 18), travellers returning or coming from the Middle East will face temperature screening stations at airports.

This is to facilitate the early detection of the Middle East Respiratory Syndrome Coronavirus (Mers-CoV) infections.

They are a pre-emptive measure by the Ministry of Health, said the ministry’s director of medical services, Associate Professor Benjamin Ong.

As of May 14, there were 48 suspected cases here of which 40 had been on a pilgrimage to the Middle East.
