Cheetahs find their claws

May 10, 2014 - 12:29am

HOUGANG UNITED 2 (Diego Gama 28, Geison Moura 59)
BALESTIER KHALSA 1 (Goran Ljubojevic 35-pen)

Even the return of their sorely missed playmaker could not help Balestier Khalsa secure back-to-back wins for the first time this season.

After an absence of eight weeks, Park Kang Jin finally returned to the Tigers’ fold as a substitute, but he could do little to prevent his side from losing 2-1 to Hougang United at Jalan Besar Stadium last night.

It was the samba combination of Diego Gama and Geison Moura which sealed all three points for the Cheetahs last night.

Hougang were the slower of the two sides to get going, and they can count themselves fortunate to go ahead after 28 minutes. Gama’s corner curled right into Zaiful Nizam’s goal as the Tigers’ custodian misjudged the ball’s flight.

Balestier equalised through a penalty by Goran Ljubojevic but, against the run of play, Hougang scored again. Moura met Fairoz Hasan’s cross to restore the Cheetahs’ lead and they held on for the win.
