Confused over notice to remove chairs from ‘cosy corner’

May 16, 2014 - 12:41am

Their cosy corner (above) for the past six years could be seeing its last days.

Residents of Block 121 Teck Whye Lane donated chairs to the void deck six years ago for residents to rest and chat.

But on Wednesday afternoon, the Chua Chu Kang Town Council issued a notice to clear the chairs within a week.

Mr Tan Chew Lim, 75, who is at the area three times a day to chat with his friends, said: “They have been aware of the place for years, but suddenly they are asking us to remove the chairs.”

A town council spokesman confirmed the notice and said the obstruction at the common area is a potential fire hazard.

The spokesman said: “There will be upcoming upgrading projects, and the town council will take their needs into consideration and have proper seats in the area if necessary.”
