A curious resident has discovered a secret underground home in a drainage canal at Bukit Panjang Road.

The 43-year-old IT engineer, who wanted to be known only as Leon, had seen a man emerge from the canal underneath a foot bridge a few weeks ago.

When he checked out the canal last Tuesday, he found a fully functioning home with two sleeping areas, a bathing area and an area to wash clothes.

It is not known who and how many are living there, but there were two giant beds with a total of five mattresses elevated on bamboo stilts to keep the canal water at bay.

Also seen there were clothes as well as women’s shoes, a child’s bag and toy balls, suggesting that a family could be living there.
